How to Identify MICR Codes

    • 1). Open your checkbook and find a blank check.

    • 2). Locate the long string of numbers printed along the bottom of the check. The numbers will be printed in a robotic-looking font and be separated, typically into two groups (account and routing), by quotations, colons and other characters.

    • 3). Flip through your checkbook. Compare the numbers on the bottom of the checks, The MICR code appears the same on each check. If you notice a difference between the numbers printed on each check, you are not looking at the MICR code.
