- 1). Dust the terrazzo floor with a dust mop, removing any loose surface dirt.
- 2). Fill a mop bucket with water and detergent -- dish soap works well -- and scrub the floor by dipping the handled scrub brush into the bucket and scrubbing the floor with it. Occasionally rinse the brush in the mop bucket to clean and get more soapy water. When finished, mop the floor to remove any remaining dirt and soap. Let the terrazzo floor dry.
- 3). Dust the floor with the dust mop. This removes any remaining dirt before burnishing.
- 4). Install the burnishing pad on the machine. Tilt the burnishing machine back and install the pad evenly, so it rotates in a circle. If the pad is misaligned with the center of the machine, it rotates unevenly. Pads are normally fastened on a Velcro-like surface. The Emulso Corporation recommends using white, ultra-high speed, (UHS) or ultra-burnishing pads.
- 5). Plug the burnishing machine into an electrical outlet and turn it on. To operate, pull the levers found on the guiding handles. It takes a few minutes to get the hang of the machine. As it tries to run away from you, grip the control handles firmly to guide the burnishing machine where you want it.
- 6). Begin polishing the floor at the sides, following along the wall edges. When the sides are complete, burnish the remaining floor in a pattern, overlapping your previous path by inches. Work from the outside, toward the floor center.
