- 1). Power off the laptop and disconnect the AC adapter. Remove any other cables connected to the computer. Flip the laptop over so that it is upside down on the table or desk.
- 2). Slide the battery latch into the "unlocked" position and then pull the battery pack out of the bay. Flip the notebook back into the right side up position.
- 3). Remove the keyboard edge cover along the base of the LCD screen by gently prying it up with a flathead screwdriver or a scribe. Remove the cover and set it aside.
- 4). Remove the rubber placement bumpers or grommets along the edge of the front screen bezel. On most laptops, there are usually four grommets along the top edge of the screen and two in the bottom corners. Use a scribe or other sharp object to pry out the grommets.
- 5). Remove the retaining screws from the holes where you removed the grommets with the Phillips head screwdriver. Use the flathead screwdriver or scribe to pry apart the front and rear parts of the screen bezel. Remove the front bezel piece and set it aside.
- 6). Remove the four to eight screws around the outside edges of the LCD screen. Tilt the screen forward and gently place it face down on top of the keyboard.
- 7). Remove the cable from the rear of the LCD screen carefully. If glue attaches the cable to the LCD screen, use a hair dryer on a low setting to melt the glue before removing the cable. Disconnect the video cable from the plug-in connector on the LCD screen. (On some models, you must disconnect the cable from the motherboard and not the LCD screen.)
- 8). Disconnect the LCD inverter cable from the LCD screen at the base of the unit. Remove the LCD screen from the computer and set it aside.
- 9). Replace the screen or make other repairs. Reassemble the screen by reversing the steps used to take LCD display apart.
