How to Drywall Tape a Straight Line on 45 Degree Angled Joints

    • 1). Remove any dust and debris by wiping the joint with a rag.

    • 2). Apply mesh tape with half of the tape on each side of the joint. Press the adhesive side of the tape firmly against the drywall.

    • 3). Apply joint compound to the angle using the 45 degree putty knife. Start from the top and apply an even amount of compound to the joint.

    • 4). Allow the compound to dry for the appropriate amount of time. See instructions on the compound packaging for drying time.

    • 5). Sand the joint from top to bottom.

    • 6). Clean the joint by wiping with the rag.

    • 7). Run your hand up and down each side of the joint feeling for rough spots.

    • 8). Fill in any areas that feel rough or that look uneven by applying a small amount of compound.

    • 9). Smooth with a putty knife.

    • 10

Allow to dry. Once the compound is dry, sand as needed.

    • 11

Repeat process until the joint is smooth to the touch and it looks even.
