The Life Cycle and Nutritional Benefits of Alaska Salmon

You are what you eat.
This classic cliché attempts to tie directly together the nutrition and health of a person.
Without the help of nutrients like iron, magnesium and calcium, there will shortages in the energy and strength of a human being.
There is no escaping that fact.
The same thing applies to the food we eat - what they have eaten is of great importance - and thus a circular effect takes place.
While we are not out in the wild consuming our prey, we are certainly at the top of the food chain.
If you wonder why certain foods are more nutritious and taste better than others, you should examine the habits of the fish or animal in question.
The superiority of grass-fed beef is well-known, but did you know that the diet of fish is just as important? In the case of Alaska Salmon -widely recognized as the world's richest and most nutritious - the spawning cycle takes them on quite the odyssey through arctic waters.
Along the way, the very rich diet in which they partake makes some of the world's best fish.
How does the spawning cycle of Alaska Salmon work? As with all salmon, it will begin in the freshwater streams around the state, where they spawn and begin the trip out to sea.
It can be as long as two thousand miles in length for some of the Alaska salmon species, making this quite the journey.
Looking closely at what the salmon eat along the way in the Bering Sea and other bodies of water will clue in anyone to why they turn out so healthy and full bodied.
As with any other creature in nature, the salmon will feed smaller species of sea life.
This includes the wonderful shellfish found off the coast of Alaska.
Like seafood consumers all around the globe, Alaska salmon enjoy these shellfish, along with ocean krill and other types of fish.
But the diet is not the only element of the spawning cycle which allows them to acquire such color and flavor.
The water itself, combined with the process of swimming upstream through it, lends its innate purity to the salmon as they migrate.
Once this journey nears its end and salmon are about to return to freshwater, the harvesting begins.
