One of the more fun things to do with clay is to create small figurines of animals, birds or dinosaurs. Roll or pat the clay into the approximate shape of what you are making. It may look just like a misshapen lump at first, but you can go back and pinch and pull to refine it. After you've created something that meets your satisfaction, use a toothpick or a stick to add in the details. Use different colors of clay if they are available. Otherwise, you can paint the clay to finish off your piece. - Clay jewelry has been around for centuries. Polymer clay is good for making beads and other jewelry, and for doing many other crafts. With a little effort and care, however, you can make jewelry from regular modeling clay as well. A round disk that is decorated with colors or designs that you've made with a stick can be worn as a pendant. Make sure to put a hole in the top so that you can insert a string or chain.

A sun disk is both fun and easy to make with clay. Just pat or roll out a roundish piece of clay. If you'd like it perfectly round, get an empty can of the size you want your disk and use it like a cookie-cutter. After you've done that, decorate your disk however you'd like, with colors, beads, paints, or designs drawn in. There are plenty of other pieces of art you can create from clay as well. - Clay can be squishy, gooey and just plain fun. Sit down with a slab of clay, or put one in front of your children, and just let the imagination run free. Roll it, pinch it, squish it if you wish, and then make something that may reside only in your imagination. The fun thing about this sort of play with clay is that there is no right or wrong way of doing it. If it looks like a rock wearing a tutu, well who is to know if that is not exactly what you meant to create?
