How to Replace the Heat Coil in a GE Profile Dishwasher

    Remove Heat Coil

    • 1). Turn off the circuit breaker to the GE Profile dishwasher. Go to the dishwasher and remove the two screws securing the bottom kickplate to the dishwasher with a nut driver. The kickplate is the panel below the dishwasher door.

    • 2). Pull the kickplate down and remove it from the dishwasher. If your GE Profile has a sound barrier foam panel, pull it away from the dishwasher.

    • 3). Open the GE Profile dishwasher door, and slide the bottom rack out of the dishwasher. Find the point where the two ends of the heating coil go through the bottom of the dishwasher. This is where you will find the nuts securing the coil under the dishwasher.

    • 4). Close the dishwasher door, and shine a flashlight under the dishwasher to locate the ends of the heating coil. The securing nuts are thick and quickly recognizable. There is a wire on each of terminal ends.

    • 5). Place a piece of masking tape around one of the heating element wires, and mark the wire as “left” or “right” depending on which wire you chose to put the tape around. Pull the wires away from the heating coil terminal ends with a pair of needle-nose pliers.

    • 6). Loosen and remove the two securing nuts with a wrench. Some force is necessary to initially turn the securing nuts. Slide the flat washers off each terminal end.

    • 7). Open the dishwasher door and unclip the heat coil from the holding clips in the bottom of the dishwasher. Lift the heat coil completely out of the dishwasher.

    Install New Heat Coil

    • 1). Slide the rubber washers that come with the new coil over each end of the heat coil until they are flush against the end flange. The end flange is a molded piece of metal that looks similar to a washer. Insert the heat coil ends into the holes in the bottom of the dishwasher. Push the coil into the holding clips on the dishwasher.

    • 2). Thread the securing nuts onto each coil end under the dishwasher. Tighten the nuts fully with the wrench. Slip the wire end over the spade terminal of the coil ends. Ensure that you place the wires on the correct terminals according to the masking tape indicator you used when removing the heat coil. Take the tape off the wire once it is on the coil end.

    • 3). Place the sound panel and kickplate back onto the dishwasher. Secure the kickplate with the two securing screws.

    • 4). Open the dishwasher door and slide the bottom rack back into the unit. Close the door and turn on the circuit breaker.
