Ice Skating Rinks in Seattle and Tacoma

In the Seattle-Tacoma area, there are ice skating rinks both seasonal and year-round—so you can get into the spirit of winter or cool off in the summer. If you are skating in November or December, look to the seasonal rinks and count on enjoying hot chocolate, cider and often fun activities and performances!

1. Winterfest Ice Rink - Seasonal

Winterfest Ice Rink is just one small part of Seattle Center’s Winterfest, but is very possibly the most popular ice skating rink in the area. The rink is set up at Fisher Pavilion from late November until just after the New Year. Admission includes skate rentals. As of 2013, admission is $7 for adults, $5 for kids 6-12, and $2 for kids 5 and younger. Cash only.

Polar Plaza sets up in Tollefson Plaza, right across from Tacoma Art Museum. It’s one of the area’s newer holiday rinks. Aside from general ice skating revelry, Polar Plaza has live music on many Saturdays, children’s parties by the Children’s Museum of Tacoma, and other special events. Check the website link above to see what live music and events are on when. Tickets are available at the rink or from Costco for a discount. General admission is $8, $7 for military and seniors 60+, $4 kids 5 younger. Skate rental is $2.

Even better, Chaplins Bellevue Volkswagon Ice Arena is open on Christmas day and New Year’s day—a rarity among ice rinks. There are special events from Stroller Skate Thursdays to visits from the Seattle Thunderbirds to free skating on select dates for Bank of America card holders. Food and beverages are available. Admission is $12 (includes skate rental) and $8 for kids 6 and younger.
