Factors Affecting Bathroom DIY Work

DIY work is something that many people look into and repainting or retiling the bathroom is something that can brighten up the place. There are a number of considerations to make when it comes to choosing the paint or tiles for the room. Much of this comes down to personal tastes but it also comes down to the room itself.

The Size of the Room

While the paint or tiles will not directly affect the amount of space that you have, they will have an effect on the look of the size. Dark walls in a small bathroom make the room look much smaller than it really is. However, it is important to avoid too much white! This gives a clinical look and also looks bland. It is worth looking at choosing two colors – especially if you are using paint and tiles around the bathroom!

The Furnishings You Have

Another consideration is the furnishings that you have in the room already. Take some time to look into the style of them and match that with the color of paint or style of tiles that you choose. There are a number of different options to choose from but not everything will blend together well.

You will also need to think about the placement of the furnishings so that you can think about the placement of the tiles, if you are going to use them. Having tiles around a shower is advisable since it will prevent the bathroom walls from collecting damp. However, do you want to have tiles all around the room? This will partially come down to a personal choice as well as a financial one.

The Budget You Have

The amount of money that you can spend on your DIY will also come into the paint and tiles that you choose. Tiling costs more money than paint since you will need to buy the tiles separately – and you may not realize just how many tiles you require. You will usually need one or two buckets of paint for a bathroom, depending on the size, which will keep the costs down.

If you want to use tiles but keep the cost down, you could look at using both paint and tiles. Consider just tiling the bits around the shower or halfway up the wall; the rest can be painted. This will help to offer a multidimensional look and will often make your room exactly what you have wanted all this time.

Your Personal Tastes

Finally, think about your personal tastes before buying anything. Just because the room is small, does not mean that you have to opt for paint that you do not like. You may find that white is the best option for you but you could then buy wall stickers that will help to add more detail to the room.

There are different types of tiles available. Some are straight cut; some are wavy; some have different patterns on them. This will also come down to a personal choice as you may want something out there and different for your room.
