1995 Pontiac Grand Am Bolt Torque Specifications

    • The 1995 Pontiac Grand Am came equipped with a 2.3-liter four-cylinder engine as standard equipment or a 3.1-liter six-cylinder engine as optional equipment. Although both engines feature a similar design, and in some cases use the same components, their torque specifications differ. Take care not to confuse the torque specifications of one engine with those of the other when performing major repair work.

    Intake Manifold

    • Tighten the 2.3-liter engine's intake manifold fasteners to 19 foot-lbs. of torque. Tighten the 3.1-liter engine's intake manifold fasteners to 10 foot-lbs. of torque.

    Exhaust Manifold

    • Note that the 2.3-liter engine's exhaust manifold fasteners include nuts and studs. Tighten the nuts to 31 foot-lbs. of torque and the studs to 9 foot-lbs. of torque. Tighten all of the 3.1-liter engine's manifold fasteners to 12 foot-lbs. of torque.

    Cylinder Head

    • Record the number assigned to each of the 2.3-liter engine's cylinder head bolts. At the front of the head, moving from left to right, are bolt numbers 7, 3, 2, 6 and 10. At the back of the head, moving from left to right, are bolt numbers 8, 4, 1, 5 and 9. Tighten bolts 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 to 26 foot-lbs. of torque, then tighten the bolts an additional 90 degrees. Tighten bolts 7 and 8 to 15 foot-lbs. of torque, then tighten both bolts an additional 90 degrees. Finally, torque bolts 9 and 10 to 22 foot-lbs. of torque, then tighten the two bolts an additional 90 degrees.

Tighten all of the 3.1-liter engine's head fasteners to 33 foot-lbs. of torque, then tighten all fasteners an additional 90 degrees.

    Crankshaft Caps

    • Tighten the 2.3-liter engine's crankshaft caps to an initial setting of 15 foot-lbs. of torque, then tighten the caps an additional 90 degrees. Tighten the 3.1-liter engine's crankshaft caps to an initial setting of 37 foot-lbs. of torque, then tighten the caps an additional 75 degrees.

    Connecting Rod Caps

    • Tighten the 2.3-liter engine's connecting rod caps to an initial setting of 18 foot-lbs. of torque, then tighten the caps an additional 80 degrees. Tighten the 3.1-liter engine's connecting rod caps to an initial setting of 15 foot-lbs. of torque, then tighten the caps an additional 75 degrees.
