- 1). Visit the Social Security Office Locator page on SSA's homepage; a link is in the Resources section. The Social Security Office Locator page provides a tool that allows U.S. citizens and permanent residents needing an SSA service to find a local Social Security office closest to their location.
- 2). Enter your 5-digit zip code in the "Enter zip code" field, then click on the "Locate" button to find a Social Security office. You will be redirected to another page containing the address and phone number of a Social Security office in your location.
- 3). Go to the Social Security office near you and report any change you believe would affect your Social Security benefit. Be sure to take your Social Security card, a photo ID, and any other supporting documentation you might have about this change. Also, you may want to bring all previous correspondence from the SSA relating to your Social Security benefit.

Call the Social Security Administration's toll-free number, 1-800-772-1213, any time from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on weekdays to speak with a Social Security representative about reporting a change that may affect your benefits. If you call during other days and hours, you will only be able to use the automated service. There is also a number for the deaf or hard of hearing who use TTY equipment: 1-800-325-0778.
- 2). Follow the prompts and wait to speak to a Social Security representative. Depending on the call load, this may take some time. However, you can continue waiting in line or you can provide a phone number to be called back when it's your turn so that you do not lose your place in line.
- 3). Discuss with the Social Security representative any factors that you believe may warrant a change in your benefits. The representative will explain what you need to do based on your individual case.
