- Adults can create Mario costumes with little expense. Grow out a mustache or purchase a fake one and stencil a red "M" for "Mario" on a white circular piece of paper. Look through your closet for a red, long-sleeved T-shirt or purchase one, as well as a pair of blue overalls. Use brown or black boots for footwear and create fireball accessories out of red, orange and yellow tissue and crepe paper.
- You can complete kids' versions of Mario costumes using child-size versions of the clothes and accessories mentioned above. Another idea for a child's Mario costume is to use computer boxes to create a Mario Game Boy piece with the child as Mario in the center of the video game (cut out). Wrap a computer box in aluminum foil and leave the opening. Attach an aluminum-foiled pizza box to the box with a staple gun and use large pieces of black craft foam as the Game Boy buttons on top of the pizza box. Attach the box to your child, who should be dressed as Mario, with suspenders.
- Adult versions of Princess Peach costumes are available through assorted online costume stores or you can make your own. Look for puffy-sleeved, pink satin dresses at thrift stores and add Princess Peach dress embellishments. These can include fuchsia trim around the bottom of the dress, fuchsia peplum and a large faux blue jewel on the top center on the chest area of the dress. Purchase a gold crown or make your own out of yellow felt and cardboard.
- Make Princess Peach masks out of cardboard and felt. Measure the width and length of your child's face to ensure the mask will fit properly. Create a "half mask" out of cardboard (the lighter the better, or paint it flesh color if necessary) and make slits for the eyes. Use blue, white and black felt around the eye slits to create Peach's big blue eyes and long eyelashes. Trace and cut out yellow felt to attach to the top of the mask for Peach's hair and attach jewels throughout the hair. Pair with a pink satin dress to complete the costume.
