• While Sunnyside and Old Fig are among the safest neighborhoods in Fresno, they are located a significant distance from the resources of downtown. Sunnyside is often considered its own island, populated by houses, churches and schools. The only other attraction Sunnyside boasts is a country club called Sunnyside Country Club. Old Fig can offer the safety of Sunnyside with the added attraction of historic buildings and old trees that brighten up the scenery.

• Sunnyside and Old Fig are the most statistically safe neighborhoods in Fresno, California. They are also the most isolated and sparse, populated by family households, schools and churches, but not much else. Woodward Park is an interesting alternative, and has both a low crime rate and access to the largest regional park in the area. Downtown Fresno and West Side Fresno have the highest violent and property crime statistics. The Tower District neighborhood in Fresno may be a reasonable alternative. This metropolitan area houses the historic Tower Theatre, is near a strip of small shops, restaurants and stores, is near Fresno City College and boasts culturally and age-diverse businesses, organizations and residencies. You should visit each neighborhood during the daytime and evening hours to help yourself make an educated decision.
