TomTom One Directions

    • 1). Press and hold the "On/Off" button on the top of the unit for two seconds to turn the device on. If this is its initial use, the display screen will prompt you to answer a few questions, including choosing a language. Press where prompted to set the preferences to your liking. Attach the supplied car charger adapter to the TomTom to give the battery a full charge.

    • 2). Familiarize yourself with the layout of the driving view as it appears on the display. This view will appear after the device is turned on and your current position is located. Your current position is represented as a cursor in the bottom center of the screen, with a set of arrows showing your immediate course of travel. Tap the "+" or "-" button to zoom the display view in or out, and tap the navigation area at the bottom of the display to hear the last spoken instruction again or to change the volume.

    • 3). Tap the center of the screen to bring up the main menu. Select "Navigate To..." to choose a destination for the route planner. This submenu will allow you to choose between your home, after that location has been saved, a recent destination, point of interest, a preset favorite or an address. Follow the prompts given with those options to create the destination. When typing an address or location, matching possibilities show in the display with each letter entered; tap the correct one when it shows and tap "Done" when finished.

    • 4). Select the "Prepare Route" option to choose not only a destination but also a preferred method of travel, including either the fastest or shortest route and to avoid freeways. You can also use this option to choose a walking or bicycle route. Tap "Details" on the route summary screen for detailed information on the chosen route. Select "Find Alternative..." or "Calculate Alternative" to change a route in progress.

    • 5). Connect the TomTom One to your computer using the supplied USB cable and follow the on-screen prompts to install the TomTom Home software. This software program will then start automatically each subsequent time the device is connected to the computer. Create an account and purchase additional TomTom content and services if you choose.
