How to Use Aromatherapy for Musty Pet House Odors

Aromatherapy Deodorizing Pet Spray (Dogs Only)

    • 1). Fill a 1-ounce spray bottle with water.

    • 2). Add 10 drops each of lavender and geranium essential oil, along with six drops of lemon essential oil.

    • 3). Cap the bottle and shake it to combine the contents. Hold the bottle 10 inches away from your dog, cover your dog's eyes and spray all but the head area.

    Aromatherapy Spray for the Home

    • 1). Fill a spray bottle with water, adding 10 drops of lavender oil, six drops each of sweet orange and peppermint oil and three drops of eucalyptus oil.

    • 2). Cap the bottle and shake it to combine the ingredients.

    • 3). Spray around your house as a room freshener, ridding your home of odors from any pets in the house. This spray may also be sprayed directly on dogs to control dog odor.

Aromatherapy for Pet Odors in Carpets

    • 1). Measure out 1 cup of baking soda, adding 20 drops of your favorite essential oil to the baking soda. (Suggestions include lavender, mint, citrus, rosemary or tea tree oils.)

    • 2). Shake the mixture to combine the ingredients, and then sprinkle the mixture liberally onto carpets to fight pet odors trapped in the carpet. Allow the mixture to sit for at least 20 minutes.

    • 3). Soak a tissue or cotton ball in some of the essential oil you used to make the baking soda mixture. Drop the tissue or cotton ball into your vacuum cleaner's bag or canister. This creates a pleasant fragrance while you vacuum the home and is a handy way to use the time while your carpet freshener sits on the carpet.

    • 4). Vacuum up the baking soda mixture, leaving behind fresh-smelling carpets.

    Aromatherapy for Hard Surface Cleaning

    • 1). Create an aromatherapy cleaner to freshen hard surfaces such as counters, walls, furniture and even hard floors. Combine two to four drops each of rosemary, lemon, eucalyptus and lavender oil in a spray bottle filled with water.

    • 2). Cap the bottle and shake the mixture well to combine the ingredients.

    • 3). Spray the mixture onto any hard surfaces in your home, even ones that are not exposed to pets. Cleaning and freshening these surfaces as well as those that your pets have access to helps destroy and prevent pet odors throughout your home.

    • 4). Wipe the cleaning mixture away from the surface with a cleaning cloth.
