How to Remove Kitchen Tile

    • 1). Place the tarp over a small section of tile. Break the tile into small, removable pieces, using a small sledgehammer.

    • 2). Remove the broken tiles from the floor, using a hand scraper. Use a power scraper on tiles that remain stuck to the subfloor. Scrape up adhesive with the hand scraper.

    • 3). Sweep and vacuum up small shards of tiles, dust and debris, using a broom and shop vacuum.

    • 4). Hold a flashlight parallel to the floor to check for any bumps and uneven spots. Remove the bumps with the hand scraper.

    • 5). Apply a floor-leveling compound appropriate for your subfloor to fill gouges, following the manufacturer's instructions.
