- 1). Open your preferred browser by double clicking on its icon on your computer's desktop or taskbar. Take a screenshot of the browser by pressing the "Ctrl" (control) and "Prt Sc" (print screen) buttons simultaneously. Open the Paint program from the Accessories group in your Start Menu, and then press "Ctrl" and "V" simultaneously to paste your screenshot into Paint. Now print this image to use as a reference for your browser costume.
- 2). Spread out your tarp or newspapers over your work surface. Place your cardboard sheets next to each other. Spray each with a light, even layer of varnish. Allow the varnish to dry, and then spray on a coat of white paint.
- 3). Turn over each painted cardboard sheet once they've both dried, and repeat the process. The initial layer of spray coat seals the cardboard's pores so the material won't just soak up all the paint.
- 4). Place one of your cardboard pieces so its shortest edge is at the top. Measure 3 inches from the top, and draw a horizontal line there with a pencil. Measure 3 inches down from that line (6 inches total from the top), and draw another horizontal line. Just underneath the lower line, lay a horizontal strip of painter's tape.
- 5). Paint the strip between the tape and the higher line grey. Try not to totally obscure the higher line with grey paint. Once the paint has dried, remove the painter's tape, and place another strip of tape directly below the higher line. Paint everything above the line blue, or another color depending on your browser (the tops of most browsers are blue). Allow the paint to dry. You don't need to paint the second piece; it's the back of the costume and is necessary mostly for equal weight distribution.
- 6). Freehand paint the rest of the details of your browser, including back and forward buttons, other browser buttons such as "Stop," "Home," and "Refresh," the address bar and a search box. Add a funny phrase, website or search request into the address bar or the search box using letter stencils, paint and a foam brush.
- 7). Allow all your painted work to dry. Cut two small holes in each cardboard piece about 3-inches from the tops and sides. Cut two lengths of ribbon to 18-inches and tie the two cardboard pieces together to create shoulder straps and complete the structure of the sandwich board sign.
