- 1). Gather the ingredients. If the mayonnaise is refrigerated, measure out a cup and allow it to reach room temperature. Peel the avocado. The amount of mayonnaise and avocado that's needed depends on the length of your hair. Blend mayonnaise and egg yolks together. Smash avocado into the mixture, and continue to blend. Note there are variations to this recipe, including adding this mixture to an equal amount of a commercial conditioner, or adding honey as a remedy for split ends.
- 2). Dampen clean hair.
- 3). Apply the mixture, starting at the crown, working it deep into the scalp and through the strands of hair to the ends. Pay special attention to the ends as they are farthest from the moisture source and may be especially dry, brittle and damaged.
- 4). Cover the hair in a shower cap or plastic bag to retain heat. If you don't have a shower cap, wrap the head in a towel simply to keep the mixture from soiling furniture as you wait for it to take action. Allow mixture to soak into the hair for 15 minutes.
- 1). Rinse the hair thoroughly with lukewarm water.
- 2). Squirt a quarter-size amount of shampoo into your hands and work into a lather. Even though the mixture has been rinsed out, shampoo well to eliminate as much residue as is possible.
- 3). Towel dry, and assess the results. If hair is extremely damaged, the process can be repeated.
- 4). Comb out hair. It may appear oily for a day or two, particularly about the scalp, but it will return to better than normal condition after the nutrients and proteins of the mixture work on the hair.
- 5). Maintain a routine. For those whose hair is damaged from years of coloring, perming or other chemical treatments, repeat this treatment about once a week as a deep conditioning treatment.
