How to Repair a Wood Screen Door

    Repairing the Screen

    • 1). Take the door down. Remove the screen. This is done by gently prying off the frame securing the screen. There will be small nails leftover. Remove these with the pliers.

    • 2). Place the new screen in the frame and tack it down with brads on one side about four inches apart. Set the next edge of the screen down and tack it into place. Cut the screen to fit the other two sides. Pull the screen taut and tack down the corner first. You will work from the corner putting brads in every four inches.

    • 3). Place the molding back on the door frame tack it down. Make sure that the brads are about 4 inches apart. This will keep the screen secure. Hang the door.

    Replacing the Latching Door Handle

    • 1). Remove the door handle. This is done by loosening the two screws. This is a latching door handle used on some screen doors, with a lock for extra security.

    • 2). Place the new handle into the hole. Make sure the screws line up. Also check that the latch works.

    • 3). Tighten both screws on the handle. They should not be too tight because it will cause the latch not to open.
