Over the past few years, Upper Deck has brought collectors various New York Yankees-themed sets. There was 2003?s blockbuster Yankees Signature, which included a certified autograph per pack, for example.
Thanks to an innovative partnership with the ?Throwback Jersey Kings? Mitchell and Ness, Upper Deck has turned it up a notch with its new 2004 Yankees Classics offering. And, as a die-hard Yankees fan, I just wanted to say ?thank you? for that.


Packed into each box of Classics is a limited-edition mini pennant, along with an exclusive card, which chronicles a special game event in Yankees history. Our box contained a mini-pennant archiving the 1939 World Series. While the game was a number of years before my time, I understand that it was choc-full of excitement!

In addition to the pennants, Upper Deck has also included redemptions for authentic Major League Baseball throw-back jerseys, including shirts from Joe DiMaggio, Don Mattingly and Mickey Mantle, just to name a few. While these are not game-used jerseys, they are exact replicas and retail for close to $300 each. A nice touch, if you ask me.

Collectors should also be on the lookout for an average of four certified autographs per hobby box. The box we opened contained four ?graphs, including Graig Nettles and Daryl Strawberry. Some of the other key signatures include Don Mattingly, Paul O?Neill and Ron Guidry, just to name a few. There are also signatures from flash-in-the-pan Yankees such as Kevin Maas, which certainly adds to the mystique of this product.
