- 1). Match a protective plate size to the diameter of the legs on the furniture. For example, if the legs on a sofa are 2 inches in diameter, use a plate that's 3 inches in diameter so it will cover the bottom of the leg and distribute the weight more evenly on the carpet.
- 2). Lift one end of the furniture with a friend's help. You don't need to raise the furniture more than a few inches.
- 3). Hold a plate to the bottom of the furniture leg and lower to the floor so the leg rests on the plate. Repeat for the legs on the other side of the furniture.
