- 1). Review all the players in the trade proposal. If the trade offer doesn't pass the "eye test" and you immediately know the talent you'll receive is insufficient, reject the trade or send a counter proposal.
- 2). Check the positions of the players involved in the trade. You want to acquire players that play positions of need. If you have a star third baseman, trading for another one doesn't make sense if it leaves you short in other areas. You don't want to trade a player who plays a position of need unless you have a replacement in mind. Check your league's free agent list to see if you can adequately replace a traded player.
- 3). Determine how the trade would help you in the various statistical categories by checking each player's stats. If you have a wealth of speed on your roster but lack power, trading a stolen base threat for a home run hitter can improve your team. Acquiring more base stealers won't help as much.
- 4). Check the injury status of all players involved by visiting the team's official website or going to RotoWorld.com. If a player has an existing injury that could linger, determine whether the trade takes this into account. Trading for an injured player is risky but can sometimes be done inexpensively. The trade can pay off when the player regains his health.
- 5). Make your decision and let the other manager know your opinion. Include the aspects of the trade that didn't work for you. The other owner may have another deal in mind that better suits your team needs. Send a counter proposal that swings the deal to your liking.
