What Sets A Combi Boiler Apart From A Traditional Boiler?

Undoubtedly you have heard of the Combi boiler. Hearing about these items and how energy efficient they are does not make you understand what sets a Combi boiler apart from a traditional one though.

The difference between a Combi boiler and the old traditional version is the fact that the Combi boiler does the job of two household appliances, and sometimes it does the job of three household appliances. The initial purchase price of these units is more than the initial purchase price of the traditional units, but you must bear in mind that you are buying the equivalent of two or more appliances.

The three appliances that you are combining when you install this newer type of device are the heating unit, the hot water heating unit, and possibly the air conditioning unit for the structure. You can purchase one device that is going to do the job of all of these devices.

The combined units will use less energy to operate than the older versions of three separate units. This means the utility cost to providing your home with a comfortable interior temperature and hot water will be greatly reduced. This will be a big savings to you all year.

The combined units will need less maintenance than the three separate devices needed. You only have to maintain one main device and the accessories that make it do the different functions throughout your home. This means there will only be one yearly service and maintenance call made by a technician in order to keep the unit in working order. Before you got the combined unit you would have needed three different technicians to check out three different appliances every year.

The combined hot water and heater units generally do a hot water on demand heating of the water. Hot water on demand means that when you turn on the faucet to get heated water it will come straight from the main supply and through a small centrally located unit, and then to the faucet. There are no holding tanks for the heated water. You do not have to worry about these systems freezing and bursting in the winter time. You do not have to drain these systems when you go on vacation to prevent the water from becoming stagnant in them. You will not run out of hot water as quickly as you did with a holding tank system.

Older heater systems in a home were often fueled by heating oil, coal, wood, and sometimes gas. As the popularity of mains gas has increased over the years the newer combined systems basically use this fuel source over all others. There are areas where mains gas is not readily available and in these areas the customer can choose to buy a unit that uses another fuel source such as propane. Both propane and mains gas are less expensive than heating oil was, and they are less messy than coal was, and they are easier to get and keep than wood was.

A Combi boiler is the newest version of boilers used in residential homes. The Combi boiler takes the place of two or more appliances that were once used in the home.
