- 1). Measure and cut 3/4-inch plywood to fit around the perimeter of the truck frame. Use a table saw to cut the pieces square with clean edges. The plywood should fit the frame with the exact perimeter dimensions of the lumber flatbed that you have planned.
- 2). Place the plywood pieces on the truck frame, then crawl under the truck frame. Screw the plywood to the truck frame with appropriate length screws with washers on them in any open holes in the frame that you can find, using a cordless screw gun and screws long enough to pass through holes in the frame.
- 3). Measure the plywood platform and cut all of the 2-by-6 lumber to that length with a miter saw. Spread a liberal bead of construction adhesive on the back of one of the 2-by-6 pieces. Place it on the plywood bed, starting in the center, glue side down. Flush it on both ends with the plywood. Place a clamp on both ends of the lumber, clamping it securely to the plywood.
- 4). Crawl under the truck. Screw through the plywood into the lumber using the cordless drill; you don't need to predrill. Place two screws 4 inches apart every 12 inches.
- 5). Spread a heavy bead of glue on two more 2-by-6 pieces. Place them on both sides of the center piece. Place clamps on both ends of both pieces. Repeat steps 4 and 5 until you have covered the plywood with lumber. If the lumber overhangs the edge of the plywood no more than 6 inches, leave it. This is a cantilevered edge; it's okay, just don't drive on it. If more than 6 inches, trim it off with a circular saw.
