- Ask your daughter to suggest colors appropriate for a princess. Pink, purple and royal blue are all good choices. Gold and silver accents add a rich flair. For the ceiling, consider a blue sky with soft clouds or the inside of a canopy.
- If you or a friend is an artist, paint a mural on one of the walls, such as a woodland scene, an enchanted kingdom or a castle. You could simply paint stones on the walls to evoke a castle. As an alternative, attach a premade mural or decorate the walls with borders, self-sticking figures and letters, or stencils. Accent with glitter paint.
- Look for thick towels in matching or complementary colors for the princess bathroom. Sew swatches of luxurious fabrics like satin, velvet and lace onto the towels' edges. (Make sure the swatches are washable.) Also look for iron-on patches in princess themes to attach to the towels. Purchase a plush area rug and toilet-seat cover. Hang a ceiling-to-floor waterproof fabric drape in front of the bath. Decorate the outside of the drape by attaching beads, crystals, plastic pearls and gauzy fabric with a glue gun; or apply touches of glitter paint instead.
- Use strips of black tape or adhesive vinyl to create "cathedral" windows. Place the strips diagonally across each other (creating diamond shapes in between) for the effect of medieval glass.
- Look for a toothbrush holder and a soap dish that match the bathroom colors, or choose gold- or silver-colored items for a gilded appearance. For tiny princesses who can't reach the sink, decorate a step stool with paint or self-sticking pictures. Ask your daughter to help you pick out posters, which you can hang in antique-looking frames. Find an ornate frame for that all-important mirror. And as a final touch, tie a washable marker to a ribbon and attach it to the frame for messages from the "magic" mirror.
