- 1). Clean the grease fitting with a wire brush. Remove as much of the corrosion and build-up of dirt as possible by brushing the fitting in a back and forth fashion.
- 2). Spray the fitting with lightweight lubricating oil around its tip. Allow the oil to soak for several minutes. Scrub the grease fitting a second time with the wire brush.
- 3). Depress the ball tip of the grease fitting, using a small steel punch. Spray the area a second time with the penetrating oil, while holding the ball tip in with the punch.
- 4). Work the ball tip of the fitting in and out several times, using the steel punch, until the ball moves freely.
- 5). Connect the grease gun coupling to the fitting by pressing it onto the fitting by hand until it snaps into place.
- 6). Pump a small amount of grease into the fitting to ensure it is now taking grease.
