- 1). Click "Start," type "cmd" into the search box and press "Enter" if running Windows Vista or Windows 7. Click "Start," select "Run," type "cmd" and click "OK" if running older versions of Windows. The Windows MS-DOS prompt will appear.
- 2). Insert a blank floppy disk into the floppy disk drive on your computer.
- 3). Type "FORMAT A:/S" into the command prompt and press "Enter." The computer will create a boot disk that you can use to update the BIOS.
- 4). Open your Web browser and download the BIOS upgrade from the Asus website (see Resources). Save the file to the floppy disk. Make a note of the file name of the saved BIOS.
- 5). Restart your computer and enter into the BIOS setup screen by pressing the "Del" key while the computer is booting.
- 6). Scroll over to the "Boot" tab at the top of the screen and scroll down to the installed floppy disk drive. Press the "+" key to move the device up to the first boot device position.
- 7). Press "F10" to exit and save your settings. The computer will automatically restart and boot from the installed floppy disk. The DOS command prompt will appear.
- 8). Type "A:\FLASH" and press "Enter." The AFLASH main menu screen will appear.
- 9). Press "2" and press "Enter." The update BIOS screen will appear.

Type "A:\" followed by the file name of the BIOS. For example, if the file name of the BIOS was 1017.003, then input "A:\1017.003." Press "Enter." - 11
Press "Y" to confirm that you want to update the BIOS. "Flashed Successfully" will appear on the screen when the update is complete. - 12
Press "Esc" to reboot the system. Enter back into the BIOS setup screen by pressing "Del" while the system is booting. Press "F5" in the BIOS setup screen to load the optimized default settings for your BIOS. Save the settings and restart your computer.
