How to Install a Six Volt Solar Fence Charger

    • 1). Place a 6-foot tall ground rod near the electric fence, 10 feet or closer from the mounting post for the solar fence charger.

    • 2). Drive the pole into the ground with a pole driver until about 2 inches remain above ground level. Stand with one foot on each side of the pole, place the pole driver on top of the pole, lift it up and strike the pole with medium force on each down stroke.

    • 3). Place the solar charger on a post with the solar panel on top pointing in the direction of the noontime sun in your region. Attach the fence charger to the post with two screws.

    • 4). Cut the 14-gauge wire to 10 feet with the fencing pliers. Cut another piece of 14-gauge wire 3 feet long.

    • 5). Place a wire clamp on the protruding section of the ground rod and turn the wing nut to tighten slightly.

    • 6). Place one end of the 10-foot wire under the wire clamp. Turn the wing nut clockwise with the tip of the fencing pliers to tighten completely. The wire will secure between the wire clamp and the pole to direct current to the ground rod in the case of an electrical storm.

    • 7). Unscrew the wing nut on the ground terminal of the solar fence charger to loosen but not remove it. Slide the free end of the 10-foot wire between the two metal washers under the wing nut and bend the wire into a tight half circle touching the terminal. Tighten the wing nut by turning it clockwise with the fencing pliers.

    • 8). Attach one end of the 3-foot long wire to the solar charger lead terminal in the same manner as you did with the ground terminal.

    • 9). Place the free end of the lead wire on the electric fence and twist it tightly in one direction making three revolutions around the electric fence wire with the fencing pliers.

    • 10

Leave the solar fence charger in the "Off" position for thyree days so it can collect a full charge from the sun.

    • 11

Turn the solar fence charger to the "On" position. A red operation light will blink every two to three seconds when a pulse of electricity electrifies the fence line.
