Bicycle Dog Trailers - Which One Is Right For You?

There are a lot of reasons to ride a bike these days.
It's easy on the Earth for one thing.
We're all trying to reduce our carbon footprint and be less oil dependent, but cycling can do a lot more for you.
It's great exercise.
If you hate going to the gym this could be the solution for you.
Why not have some fun while you're trying to get in shape? You will save money by riding a bike as well.
Since I began commuting by bicycle I've saved hundreds of dollars every year on gas, parking, and maintenance expenses.
How long has it been since you were on a bike.
Try it, you'll feel like a kid again.
When I started cycling I began looking for a way to bring my dog along.
I was accustomed to taking her everywhere with me, and I simply didn't think it was safe to tie her leash to the handlebars.
I investigated a number of bicycle dog trailers before I found one that was appropriate for my needs.
There's a wide variety of sizes and prices to choose from when you're shopping for a trailer.
It's a good idea to take your time and consider all the features before you make a final decision.
Your dog's size is a factor as well as the terrain that you plan to cycle over.
The most expensive choice isn't necessarily the best choice it's just a matter of finding one to suit your needs.
All trailers seem to have a standard set of features.
For example they all have removable wheels.
This is convenient for anyone who lives in an apartment.
You can just pop off the wheels, fold up the kennel component of the trailer and slide it under your bed.
It's simple to do.
They all have a D-ring inside.
You can clip your dog's leash to the ring to keep him safely inside the trailer.
I've found that a chest harness works best for this.
There are a myriad of differences in trailers as well.
Most have stroller conversion kits.
For the less expensive trailers this is often sold separately, but you'll find this as an included feature in many trailers.
This option is great for an arthritic dog or one who just can't get around easily.
Weight capacity also differs from trailer to trailer.
Some go as high as 110 lbs while others max out at 45.
If you have a big dog make sure that you choose a trailer that's appropriate for his size.
One other feature that separates the puppies from the pit bulls is wheel size.
Most bicycle dog trailers have 20 inch wheels, but you'll find some on the market that only have sixteen inch wheels.
The wheel size determines how much clearance you have underneath the trailer.
If you're planning on taking you dog off road you'll want to choose the larger wheel size.
A bicycle dog trailer is a fantastic investment for anyone who wants to take their canine companion on the road with them.
Now Fido doesn't have to stay home while you're out enjoying the day.
