Turning 80 years old is a milestone occasion that is cause for celebration. An 80 year old may be a grandparent or great-grandparent, so ask the children in the family to get involved with making some of the decorations. Keep the guest of honor's tastes in mind when decorating the room; if she has a particular favorite color or flower, incorporate this into the decor and theme. - Use photographs to decorate a room and create a talking point for guests. There are lots of ways to incorporate photographs in to the room. Use digital photo frames to play slideshows of the guest of honor. Place the frames near a guest book so that guests can view the images as they write their wishes. Alternatively, create a photograph collage that shows the guest of honor at various points in her life. Include images of her with her children and grandchildren to show the importance her family has in her life.
- A party would not be a party without balloons. Order balloons in the color of his birthstone or with "Happy birthday" on them. Use the number eight as your theme and group them into bunches of eight. Tie them to the backs of chairs, onto the stair banister or use paperweights to keep them to the ground in the corner of a room. Place birthday banners over doors or mirrors. Get the children to help make their own birthday banners or paper chains for their grandparent.
- Floral arrangements brighten up any room and add a sense of occasion. Choose flowers that represent the guest of honor's birth month. If her birthday is in May, use lilies, which represent purity of heart and sweetness. Place vases of flowers on tables and shelves.
- Do not overlook the importance of the food you prepare. A beautifully arranged cupcake tower or fruit bouquet is as much a part of the decoration as it is the food. Create a candy or fruit bouquet that will keep the little ones in the family happy. Bowls of exotic fruits or large glass jars filled with the guest of honor's favorite sweet treat are also appealing to the eye.
