- 1). Measure the height of the dovetail joint on the guitar body and drill two evenly spaced 3/8-inch-diameter holes through the dovetail joint.
- 2). Slide the dovetail joint on the neck onto the dovetail joint on the guitar and then mark the holes you drilled through the dovetail joint on the guitar onto the dovetail joint on the neck. To do this, place a small flashlight into the sound hole to illuminate the inside of the guitar and then reach with a marker and mark the holes.
- 3). Remove the neck from the guitar body.
- 4). Drill holes into the dovetail joint at each marked location with a 1/4-inch-diameter drill bit. Drill the hole 1 ¼ inch deep.
- 5). Thread one end of the bolt into the holes on the dovetail joint on the neck. Use a wrench to turn the bolt into the neck.
- 6). Slide the bolts through the holes on the dovetail joint on the guitar body and seat the neck in place.
- 7). Slide a 3/8-inch washer onto each bolt and then thread 3/8-inch nuts onto the bolts and tighten them with a wrench.
