How to Open Child-Proof Car Door Locks on a 1993 Escort

    • 1). Open the car door (except the driver's side door--it doesn't have a child proof lock). Along the side of the door you can see a metal pen marked "Child Lock." Push this lock down and close the door. The door can no longer be opened while inside the car.

    • 2). Insert your key into the lock on the door you have the child lock on. Unlock the vehicle, then open the door from the outside. This unlocks the child lock and opens the vehicle door.

    • 3). Repeat the process every time you want to use the child proof lock. After every time you use the lock it resets itself, so you must push down on the lock to enable it before you drive.
