- 1). Click on "Start" > "Settings" > "Control Panel" > "System and Security" > "Hardware" and then "Device Manager." The Device Manager window opens. (See Reference 2)
- 2). Double-click on "Sound, Video and Game Controllers." You should see a sound card listed. For example, "Conexant 20561 SmartAudio HD." If no sound card is listed, you will need to install one in order to make sound come from your PC speakers. Installing a sound card is a technical process that may require a computer technician. Alternatively, you can follow the steps detailed at the Windows: Install or Remove a Sound Card homepage (see resource below) to install a sound card yourself. (See Reference 2)
- 3). Close the Device Manager window.
- 1). Go to the Microsoft Support: Automated Troubleshooting Services homepage (see resource below).
- 2). Click on "Run Now" next to Diagnose and fix sound playback issues. (See Reference 1)
- 3). Click "Run" and then "Continue." The Microsoft Fix It Tool will automatically diagnose and repair problems with sound and audio on your computer. If the Microsoft Fix It Tool cannot fix the problem, it will provide you with additional resources to help you fix the problem. (See Reference 1)
