How to Clean Mold in an Enclosure

    • 1). Address all moisture leaks before attempting to clean; once the source of the moisture problem is fixed, mold should not regrow after cleaning

    • 2). Assess the area of damage wearing a respirator, long gloves and goggles. Remove all heavily contaminated porous materials such as cloth, Sheetrock, ceiling tiles, carpet and plaster. Cut 12 inches beyond areas of visible mold. Bag contaminated items and throw away.

    • 3). Scrub mold off remaining affected surfaces using a nonammonia detergent, a scrub brush and hot water. Rinse with hot water and dry completely.

    • 4). Properly ventilate the area. Disinfect with a 10 percent bleach and hot water solution.

    • 5). Allow the area to dry thoroughly for two to three days, employing a dehumidifier if available.
