- 1). Paint your walls black for a dramatic look. You can use a high-gloss finish paint, which gives a sophisticated vibe to the room. All four walls do not have to be black; paint three walls white and paint the fourth one black or add Harlequin wallpaper to it as an accent wall. For another look, add black wainscoting to white walls for a modern sophisticated look.
- 2). Put down black floors. This creates a contrast against white walls. It would give the store a gallery look. Black floor tiles, wooden floors or even painted black concrete floors can achieve the look. White floors with black borders would also complement the black-and-white palette.
- 3). Design bold ceilings. Flat white ceilings create little contrast or visual interest. Add texture and dimension by adding wood beams or a plastered molding. Hang a black chandelier or light fixture to break up a solid white ceiling.
- 4). Choose a black-and-white patterned piece of furniture such as a sofa or armchair. A white sofa with a black embroidered flower pattern is chic; a black-and-white striped couch is fun; and a black sofa with white piping is sophisticated. If you opt for a solid black or solid white couch, consider buying a leather, suede or fur piece to add a visual element.
- 5). Choose accessories with bold patterns. If the store has large blocks of solid of white furniture, adding accessories with bold black-and-white patterns or print can give the store visual interest. Add black and white patterned or floral throw pillows to the couch and chairs. Add a zebra rug to the floor for a chic touch. Select curtains that are rich in texture such as black velvet or a soft white curtain in lace.
