Unhealthy foods are everywhere around us with some of them being absolutely bizarre. I guess that is the point - be unusual so people will come and eat at that restaurant. Unfortunately, a lot of these items are high in sugar and trans fats and lack the basic nutrients your body needs. Here are seven of the worst of the worst to avoid.
1. Stuffed Crust Pizza
Putting something inside of the crust of a pizza was started by Pizza Hut when they put cheese in it. To take it a step further, they now offer a hot dog stuffed version. Hot dogs are made of highly processed meat and loaded with salt and fat. Add this to the high calorie content in pizza with more fat from other processed meats like pepperoni and salami as well as cheese and you end up with 540 calories a slice.
2. KFC's Double Down
White bread and buns are made with processed wheat which is very healthy but replacing it with two pieces of greasy deep fried chicken is crazy. At least it is on the specialty menu and is not a regular menu item. This chicken, cheese and bacon sandwich has 37 grams of fat and 1 880 mg of sodium. Surprisingly it only has 610 calories so not as much as expected. This does not make it any better of a choice to eat though.
3. Sausage Pancakes on a Stick
You have heard of corn dogs but how about the same idea but using a sausage and pancake batter? The two do fit well together at least. Each one is not very big so has 220 calories, 13 grams of fat and 250 mg of sodium. Eating three of them put it in the same range as the double down above.
4. Triple Baconator
A list of unhealthy foods would not be complete without a burger. This on is huge! Wendy's triple patty, triple cheese and bacon is a whopping 1350 calories and contains 90 grams of fat and 2780 mg of sodium. You will need a big appetite and not much else to eat that day as this one covers over half of the average 2000 calorie a day diet.
5. Deep Fried Oreos
I can understand deep fried foods for the most part but a cookie? Specialty treats like this one are made famous at carnivals so only show up once a year. Five of these bite sized goodies have 900 calories, 48 grams of fat in the batter mixed with 51 grams of sugar in the cookie. It might be a favorite but not a healthy one.
6. Caramel Pecanbun
One of the best selling unhealthy foods at a breakfast counter is a cinnamon bun. This one is loaded up with caramel and pecans for an incredible 1 110 calories, 5 grams of fat and 47 grams of sugar. That many calories early in the day will make you want to have a nap before noon!
7. Quiznos Large Tuna Melt Sub
Unhealthy foods are sometimes not what you expect. A tuna melt appears to be a good choice until you check the nutrition facts and see that it contains 1 460 calories and 1 780 mg of sodium. I like the omega-3 oil in the fish but not the rest.
An average, active male or female should consume 2 000 to 2 500 calories a day with around a 500 to 800 calorie deficit from that to lose weight. Compare that t the calories in each of these unhealthy foods. Eating most of your daily calories in one food item would not be a good idea! Watch the level of fat, sugar and processed meats in your foods to avoid unwanted calories and try to stick to green veggies to add quality nutrients.
