How to Treat Malignant Melanoma in Dogs

    • 1). Examine your dog regularly for any abnormality. Symptoms of malignant melanoma include abnormal growth on the body, facial swelling and difficulty breathing. Make a note of any symptoms you observe and call your dog's medical provider.

    • 2). Take your dog to the vet for diagnosis. Your medical provider will need to examine your dog to determine if she suffers from malignant melanoma. Blood and urine may be taken from your canine and a biopsy of the mass may be scheduled.

    • 3). If you receive confirmation that your dog suffers from this diseases, ask your vet about surgery. If the issues hasn’t spread this may be very successful for your dog’s recovery.

    • 4). Consider the benefits of chemotherapy. It may be a good idea to consider treating your dog with chemotherapy in addition to surgery. This is especially true if your dog’s condition is very aggressive or in the later stages of malignant melanoma.

    • 5). Provide a peaceful environment to heal. When you bring your canine home from the hospital, make sure she has a quiet place to heal. Wash all of her bedding and include a few of her favorite toys. Play soft music and give her a lot of calm attention.
