Gorgeous Homecoming Hairstyles for Long Hair

Demi Lovato's Homecoming Ponytail

While prom is ultra-dressy, homecoming is a little more laid back. So, your tresses doesn't need to be twisted up in an elaborate updo. Instead, homecoming hair is all about being glam... in a softer way. These long hair 'dos are simple enough that you can pull them off yourself- without the help of a hairdresser!

Demi Lovato pulls her long, thick locks away from her face in a high ponytail that's fastened at the crown of her head.

To get this look, tease up the front section of your hair, spray it with hairspray, then create a pouf and fasten it with one or two bobby pins. Then, pull the rest of your hair back and secure it with a rubber band at the top of your head. Take a few strands from the bottom of your ponytail and wrap it around the rubber band to conceal it. Secure it with a bobby pin pushed into the ponytail.

Blake Lively's Braided Updo

Blake Lively’s laid-back yet glam braid is a perfect for homecoming. First, lightly run pomade or spray wax through your hair (this will make it easier to work with). Section off your bangs or the front part of your hair. Then, take a chunk of hair along the left side of your part and divide it into three sections. Braid it so it falls back behind your shoulder. Tie the end of your braid with a small elastic band.

Pin the sides of your hair back at the nape of your neck. Leave a few wispy pieces loose to frame your face.

Then, gather the rest of your hair and tuck it underneath itself at the nape of your neck to create a loose chignon. Pin as needed. Leave a few pieces loose and weave them into tiny braids to create texture.

Next up- Ashley Benson’s Bun!

Ashley Benson's High Bun

A high bun can be simple and elegant for homecoming.

Instead of slicking back her hair in a tight bun, Ashley keeps her locks smooth on the sides but creates volume on top.

To get this look, first tease your hair to create volume. Spray it with hairspray. Then, secure it with an elastic at the crown of your head. Run your fingers through the top of your head so your ponytail is not completely flat. Play with the pieces until you get the look you want.

Tease your ponytail, then divide it into two sections. Twist them loosely, then wrap them around your elastic to create a large bun, securing your hair with bobby pins as needed. Fiddle with the bun until you get the look you want.

Miley Cyrus' Big Waves

If you want to wear your hair down for homecoming, take a cue from Miley Cyrus. Soft, big waves are romantic yet glam… especially when your hair is super shiny!

Rinse your hair with a shine conditioner. Blow dry it with a large round brush. If your hair is fine, use the brush to lift up your hair at your roots and blast them with heat (just be careful you don’t blast it too hard- you don’t want to end up with burnt hair!)

Use a wide barrel curling iron (1.5 to 2 inches round) to create soft waves.

Make sure to curl the ends of your hair only. Spray your curls lightly with loose-hold hairspray. Run your fingers through your hair to break up the curls, and then hit the town!

Next up- Selena’s Half-Up Curls!

If you can’t decide whether you want to wear your hair up or down, get the best of both worlds with a loose half up, half down hairstyle like Selena’s.

Part your hair down the middle, then use a medium barrel curling iron to create waves all over. Spray your curls lightly with hair spray so they’ll hold.

Then, section off two panels of hair along your part just above your ears. Pin them back with bobby pins.

Leave two pieces in front to frame your face.
