Hi. I'm Angela Price from Eden Condensed, small space garden design and this it garden space. Today, I'm going to show you how to use roses in a window box. Now I found these great galvanized metal file drawers and they're the perfect window box size to put on a ledge in front of a window. And the best roses to choose for window boxes are these mini roses. So they're not going to get super big, they're really easy to care for and they also have really nice blooms. They do come in several different colors. I do have a dark red here. I also have pink but I think I'm going to use the dark red in my window box design because I have the most of those. So for a box this size which is about two feet long I'm going to put three roses in. And they also don't, well they do have little thorns, the thorns aren't as big as a regular roses. And I'm going to get these popped in here. You should fill this with some nice well draining potting soil and your container should also have drainage holes in the bottom. So I've drilled some into mine. Or if you're using a standard wood window box, they usually come with holes already drilled in them. So I'm going to put three in here because those will fill the box really nicely. And then you'll want to put some accent flowers in as well. I've chosen white, I have some lobelia here, these will spread out nicely and kind of tip over. And you can kind of just tuck these in to the corners as well. I also have some flocks which I like and it's just a matter of putting these around in areas that you're going to give them some accent and show off the pops of the really nice red color or if you choose a different color rose. And you know, the sky's the limit. You can pretty much put anything in here that's not going to get too big. You want to do kind of smaller plants around the perimeter so that the roses really are the star of the show. And as the flowers die you'll want to just go ahead and just snip off the dead ones and that will encourage additional growth. Plus use a liquid general purpose fertilizer maybe every three months or one that's formulated for roses and that will keep the roses nice and healthy too. The last thing you want to do is give them some water to get them going. And remember with roses not to water too much on the leaves or in the evening. So that way it'll prevent any powdery mildew from coming up. If you have any other questions about how to use roses in a window box, please contact me at www.edencondensed.com. Thank you very much.
