- 1). Fill a sink or washtub with lukewarm water. Add a gentle laundry soap such as Woolite or Ivory Snow to the water. Refer to the detergent's label for the exact amount of soap to use. Add 1 oz. oxygen bleach to the water if the linens are white.
- 2). Place the linen napkins and tablecloths into the washtub. If washing more than one piece of linen, wash colored items together and white items separately.
- 3). Agitate the linens in the water with your hands. Do this for several minutes to thoroughly clean the fabric. Do not rub the pieces of fabric together to clean them.
- 4). Drain the water from the sink or washtub. Place the linen items aside (in a plastic garbage bag or in an adjoining sink) while you rinse all of the soap residue from the sink.
- 5). Fill the sink or washtub with plain water. Place the linens in the water.
- 6). Agitate the items again to remove all of the soap. If the rinse water becomes soapy, drain the water, remove the linens and refill the sink with plain water. It is important to remove all traces of soap from the linens.
- 7). Hang or lay the linens flat to dry. They may also be placed in a dryer on low heat to dry. Do not wring out the linens before drying.
- 8). Wash linens in the washing machine if you do not want to hand wash them. Use the gentle cycle and a mild laundry soap. Wash colored linen and white linen separately.
