- 1). Remove the radiator cap. Open the drain valve on the bottom of the radiator and drain old coolant.
- 2). Loosen the hose clamps, using a screwdriver, on the upper and lower radiator hoses. Remove the hose clamps from the upper and lower coolant hoses and remove the hoses. If equipped, remove the overflow reservoir hose from the radiator in the same manner.
- 3). Remove the screws attaching the fan shroud to the radiator, then move the shroud rearward so that it hangs over the fan. If equipped with an electric fan, remove the attaching bolts from the fan. Lift the fan out and lay it on the engine.
- 4). Disconnect the automatic transmission fluid cooler lines from the radiator, if equipped. "Flare-nut" or "line wrenches" can make this step easier, but open-end wrenches can work.
- 5). Remove the radiator retaining bolts and/or brackets (as applicable) from the top of the radiator. Lift the old radiator from the vehicle and set it aside.
- 1). Lower the new radiator into the vehicle. Be careful not to damage the cooling fins on the fan or other surrounding parts. Install the retaining bolts and/or brackets (as applicable).
- 2). Slide the upper and lower coolant hoses onto the new radiator hose fittings, then position and tighten the hose clamps. Attach the overflow reservoir hose, if equipped. Verify that the radiator drain valve is closed.
- 3). Connect the automatic transmission fluid cooler lines to the new radiator, if equipped.
- 4). Position the fan shroud in place, then secure it by replacing the attaching screws. Do the same with the electric fan, if equipped.
- 5). Fill the radiator with 50/50 mix of antifreeze and water, or pre-mixed coolant. Replace the radiator cap.
- 6). Start the engine. If there are coolant leaks, stop the engine until the leaks can be fixed. If there are no leaks, allow the engine to reach normal operating temperature. If equipped with automatic transmission, hold the brake with your foot and shift through "drive" and "reverse", pausing long enough to allow the transmission to engage, then place the transmission in "park." Turn off the engine and allow it to cool completely.
- 7). Remove the radiator cap and check the coolant level in the radiator. Add coolant as needed. If equipped with automatic transmission, check the fluid level and add fluid if needed.
