- 1). Add a transportation theme to the walls. Select a wallpaper and wall border that depict trains and automobiles, or create stencils and paint cars and trains on the walls. Make a stencil by tracing a car or train design from a book or magazine onto Acetate or Mylar (thin plastic sheeting materials available at craft supply stores).
- 2). Choose paint colors for accents or trim that are bold and go along with the theme of transportation. Green, yellow and red, for instance, are the colors found in traffic lights or railroad crossing signs. Crossing signals are red and white. Decide on two or three colors to keep the color theme simple.
- 3). Hang train and car artwork that complement the model cars and trains you are using. Framed artwork adds a nice touch to any room.
- 4). Choose accent pieces that will add to the transportation theme. Train or car lamps or bookends, for instance, will bring out the theme, as well as sheets or drapes with cars or trains on them. Consider creating a focal point with a train or car bed. Books about cars and trains lend a nice touch.
- 5). Make the model cars and trains the showpiece of the room. Build a shelf on which to display the model cars. Install a special shelf along the perimeter of the room for the model trains. (See Resources below.) Shelving allows you to display the trains and cars without giving up valuable living space.
