- 1). Unscrew the fuel cap and look inside for any presence of gas. There is no fuel gauge on lawn mowers, so the only way to tell if the mower has any fuel is to look inside the fuel tank. If there is not any fuel inside, fill it with regular unleaded 87 octane fuel.
- 2). Open the oil cap under the hood and look inside. There is no oil gauge to tell you if oil is present. If there is not any present, the engine will overheat. Fill it with 42 oz. of oil.
- 3). Inspect the spark plug, which is located on the right side of the engine. If the plug is cracked, it will not send a spark into the carburetor to start the engine. Replace it with a new one.
- 4). Unscrew the oil filter with an oil filter wrench. If any oil is leaking out the side of the cap, it needs to be replaced.
