- 1). Clear your yard of unnecessary debris. Raccoons are opportunists and will build dens in woodpiles, overgrown shrubs and piles of debris. Clearing these things will help keep raccoons on the outside of your fencing.
- 2). Remove sources of food from your yard. Secure your garbage cans with elasticated straps and bring pet food containers indoors, if possible.
- 3). Ensure existing fences are buried at least 6 inches deep to prevent raccoons from digging under your fence.

Install two strands of electric fencing around the perimeter of your yard. The lower strand should be no more than 6 inches above the ground. Use a 1 amp/250-volt fuse for a low level of electricity. - 5). Install the fence controller under cover to prevent moisture damage.
- 6). Switch the fence on at night to deter raccoons. Switch it off during the day to conserve power.
