It seems like each and every year the amount and the quality of the entertainment that is available on cable TV, is not only exploding, but also greatly improving.
For those of you that are too young to remember, most of the people in our country only had access to the three giant television networks back in the 50's, 60's, and the early part of the 70's.
That is correct, when you sat down in front of your TV; you only had three TV shows to choose from.
If you did not like any of them, too bad because you were out of luck, and you had to wait at least a half hour before the new shows started.
Today, when a teenager decides they want to watch a little television, the cable TV companies often supply over 100 channels to select from.
In addition, because of the explosion in cable TV stations, they are able to target very specific niches and design programming for an age group and demographic profile.
But, just like back in the old days when there were only three TV stations, the kids still complain, that there is nothing on TV that they want to watch.
If they only knew what it is like being a kid back then? During the summer when school was out, the only thing on in the afternoon Monday through Friday, was soap operas.
Just imagine being a 10-year-old little boy when it is raining cats and dogs outside, and being forced to watch 4 hours of soap operas.
Then after the soap operas ended, the local and national news started.
So, the next time your child starts complaining about the quality of the shows on your local cable TV network, please be sure to let them know what it was like before they existed.
The fact of the matter is that the cable TV stations have significantly improved the quality of our lives by providing exciting and engaging entertainment, which is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
In addition, there is all kinds of nature, history, and scientific programming available now, which helps all of our children learn more about the world that simply would not be possible without cable TV.
Some of the kids today have no idea at all the significance that cable TV has played in their lives by improving their knowledge, and providing them entertainment specifically designed for them.
