There is a lot to know about having a blog or website.
For the majority of us, we don't know every in and out of the Internet as to what it can do for our blog; learning is always in motion which is a good thing.
Your blog can be read by anyone who has access to the Internet throughout the entire world.
The location of your hosts server does have an impact.
You may not think that this is important but it is especially if you are selling a product and want the search engines to put your site at the top of the list.
You don't have the location of where your server is located but you can control the content on your blog to reach as many people as possible.
This sounds somewhat contradictory so let me explain.
When an Internet user requests a search query, let's say from Google, Google will attempt to retrieve all sites that are relative for that user's request as well as where that user is located based on their IP address.
If you don't know, the IP is a form of an address; part of your IP address states both the location of your modem as well as where the server you use is located.
If you live in Parker, Colorado but your server is located in Denver, Colorado then your IP address will reflect both Parker and Denver.
Selling Local So, if you are selling a book about skiing then the search query that Google runs begins with all of the IP addresses that are in that area and then extends outwards.
This is extremely beneficial to sellers because when you are marketing a product, especially if it can be used by the local residents, then this type of search with the IP address is exactly what will help bring in sales.
Selling Regional If you are selling a product that can be used practically anywhere, you may want to chose a web blog hosting company that is based more on the types of products and services that they provide in addition to what the company itself offers such as excellent pricing and technical support.
Concerned? Don't be too concerned about if your blog is hosted in the United States or in Australia; yes, it does help to have a local server but how you blog and your marketing skills will do most of the work for you.
By the way, there is a targeting option located in Google's Webmaster Tools in which you can tell Google where you are located to help them help you.
