- 1). Click the "Menu" button until "Information menu" appears. Press the "Item" button until "Print configuration page" appears. Click "Select" to start printing the configuration page.
- 2). Review the configuration page, particularly the network settings. The printer should show a valid IP address--this address consists of four digits, each separated by a period, i.e. 10.68.25.200. Remove and reseat the network cable and power cycle the printer if there is no valid IP address listed.
- 3). Check the lights on the printer's network card. The lights should be green and flashing. If the lights are off, or if they are amber, the network card might need replacement.
- 4). Lift the top cover of the printer and carefully remove the toner cartridge. Set the toner cartridge aside and clean underneath it. Use a soft cloth or a small computer vacuum to remove any paper dust and toner residue from inside the printer.
- 5). Open the right side door of the 5100TN and look for any jammed paper. The right door is a frequent spot for paper to jam. Remove any jammed paper and close the door.
- 6). Check the left door of the printer as well. Paper can jam around the fuser cartridge. Carefully remove the paper and close the door.
- 7). Slide all the paper trays out of the printer, then push them in one at a time. Make sure the printer trays are no more than 3/4 full--filling the paper trays to the top could cause the printer to grab multiple sheets of paper, resulting in a jam. Print from each tray--if the printer works fine from one tray and not the other, the rollers on that tray probably need replacement.
- 8). Pull the problem drawer out as far as it will go, then lift up gently to pull it free of the printer. Set the tray aside and locate the small rollers inside the printer. Pull the old rollers off of the metal bar, then carefully slide the new rollers on until they snap into place. Replace the paper tray and test the printer again.
