In a small town in Massachusetts, three middle-aged women discover that they have magical abilities that they can use to control the way men treat them. But the stranger who's helping them discover themselves has his own interests at heart.

Origins:

Eastwick is adapted from both the John Updike novel and the 1987 movie. The project was spearheaded by Maggie Friedman, who has worked on Dawson's Creek and prestige projects like Jack and Bobby and Once and Again.

Key 'Eastwick' Characters:

These characters start out as victimized (and cliched) women, but Roxie (Rebecca Romijn), has the most backstory to explore. The men, apart from Darryl (Paul Gross), are mostly underdeveloped and ancillary to the women's needs, but the actors (Matt Dallas, Johann Urb, Jon Bernthal) make the most of what they're given.

Flavor of 'Eastwick':

The notes of feminine empowerment are mostly centered around sexuality verging on smuttiness, which is fine except that it's done with a minimum of sophistication. The greatest potential comes from the chemistry between the three women.
