Gifts for Pig Lovers

    Figurines

    • Pig figurines come in all shapes and sizes, from tiny china ornaments to large tabletop centerpieces. Prices also vary greatly depending upon the maker, the materials used and the quality of the craftsmanship. If your friend is a collector of pig paraphernalia, any figurine, large or small, is a safe option.

    Practical Pig Items

    • There are plenty of fun and practical pig-themed items available on the market. If you need to buy a gift for a friend with a passion for pigs and gardening, for example, a pig-shaped watering can would be ideal. For cooks, you could buy a chopping board with a pig design or a pair of pig-shaped salt and pepper shakers.

    Piggy Bank

    • No pig lover would be disappointed to receive a traditional piggy bank. Ceramic or porcelain piggy banks make good gifts for kids and adults alike. They can be used for storing loose change or as fun ornamental items.

    Artwork

    • Many famous works of art feature pigs as their main subject. Original artwork is prohibitively expensive, but you can buy framed prints or reproductions without spending too much money. You can choose from many charming works. Notable examples include John Vine's "Sow with Her Piglets", Michael Sowa's "Kohler's Pig" and "An Appeal to the Benevolent" by William Weekes.

    Adopt a Pig

    • The World Animal Foundation has an Adopt a Pig program that helps fund their efforts to protect all manner of animals. The adoption itself is symbolic, so the recipient will not actually receive a real pig. As of February 2011, you can purchase the Adopt a Pig Kit for $35 and have it registered and mailed to any person you choose. The kit includes a photo of the pig, an adoption certificate and a fact sheet about the pig. It is a fun gift, and one that helps protect animals throughout the world.

    Movies

    • Pig movies are perfect gifts for kids. The two "Babe" movies feature a talking pig that gets into all manner of adventures. The visual effects are excellent and kids will be engrossed from start to finish. "Charlotte's Web" is a classic children's novel about a pig named Wilbur and a spider named Charlotte. The book has been made into two films, an animated version released in 1973 and a live-action adaptation made in 2006. Both would be suitable gifts for pig-obsessed kids.
