Wireless Home Security Systems - Tips and Advice

Home security is on the mind of most homeowners today. Several options to protect the home are available. One of these options is a security system that operates without wiring.

A wireless security system transmits radio waves rather than hard wires to communicate with its components. This feature stops intruders from cutting wires to the home; as has happened with wired burglar alarms.

There are two basic wireless security systems available. The first type sounds an alarm at the moment there is a breach to the home. If the alarm is connected to authorities it has the ability to dispatch authorities to the home immediately.

A second system is monitored by a professional security company. When a signal is sent to the monitoring station the company makes a check to assure that the alarm was not triggered accidentally before dispatching police. These signals are received from all devices in the home by a control panel. The signals come from security devices that include cameras, motion detectors and magnetic switches.

The control panel for wireless systems work basically the same. An alarm system will sound when there is forced entry or the detector senses motion. Magnet contacts may be placed near doors and windows. These too will cause the alarm to sound if the magnetic contact is broken with the switch.

Wireless security systems are programmed to sound an alarm when a window is opened to a degree that would suggest a human body could fit through it. Both systems can be equipped with sensors that detect movement as well as infra red heat signals. With a monitored system, potential threats can be assessed to determine if police should be called or if a family member triggered the system by accident.

A wireless system is controlled with a keypad that is usually near a main door of the residence. Remote keypads are also available that operate much like a keyless entry car remotes. Either keypad is able to arm or disarm the system as needed.

A wireless security system for the home has many advantages. Homeowners can decide to install the system themselves or hire a professional security company to make the installation.
